Three Things To Do Before Your Movers Arrive

Being prepared for your residential moving company before they arrive on moving day can help to make your transition to a new home go more smoothly. Here are a few things you should consider doing before your movers arrive so you are ready to get the move started.

Make Room For The Moving Truck

If the moving truck will be parking in your driveway, move your personal vehicles out of the way. The close the truck is to your home, the more quickly and efficiently your move will go. Park on the street or somewhere close by that's out of the way. You'll also want to remove any vehicles from the garage, particularly if you have a lot of moving boxes stacked there. This will help the moving crew to access all of your items. For apartment complexes or homes without driveways, be sure to mark off or hold parking spots for the moving crew.

Clear A Path

Your home may seem a bit chaotic with boxes stacked everywhere, and you may find it difficult to organize and arrange them before moving day. Take a bit of time to simply clear a path in each room so the movers can easily access the boxes. Remove any area rugs or cords from the path that the crew might trip on, and clear a path that is wide enough for them to move boxes and furniture through. If you don't provide a way for the movers to get around your home, you may find that your move will take longer than originally expected.

Have Everything Packed

While it's understandable that you might run into a few odds and ends that you forgot to pack, the bulk of your items should already be in boxes on moving day. The last thing you want to be doing is throwing items into moving boxes when you should be supervising the move. If you find that you are running behind in the packing process, have your moving company add packing services to your moving day services. Even having help for one day can make it that much easier to finish preparing for your move.

Your moving company may have a checklist you can use to make sure that you are prepared for your move. Use it to get ready before the moving crew arrives, and don't hesitate to ask the moving company for extra help if you find yourself falling behind on moving day preparations.
